New SEH Scannerserver Makes Scanners Available Via the Network

Special Solution myUTN-130 for the USB Virtualisation of USB Scanners With Data Compression
Bielefeld, Germany (November 17th, 2011). – SEH, the German specialist for network solutions, announces the myUTN-130 Scannerserver. This is a USB virtualisation solution especially for non-network-enabled USB scanners. The Scannerserver is designed for all scenarios where accessing scanners via the network is desirable but technically difficult, if not impossible. The myUTN-130 connects scanners to virtualised environments (Citrix, VMWare, Microsoft Hyper V etc.), including their full functional range. Depending on the original and the scan method, the Scannerserver offers scan data compression rates of more than half of the original size, which is an advantage in networks with narrow available bandwidth. For users, the scanner operates as if it were locally attached. The myUTN-130 is now available for 275 Euro excluding local taxes.
As a rule, scanners are designed for local attachment to a PC or notebook. If users need to scan a document but have no access to a scanner at their own workstations, they have to ask a colleague for help who has a scanner attached or they have to disconnect a scanner elsewhere and attach it to their own PC. Both methods are inefficient and time-consuming. The myUTN-130 Scannerserver makes non-network-enabled scanners available for several users across a network, including their full functional range.
Scanning in Wide Area Networks With Narrow Bandwidth
If a scanner is to operate at a remote site in a Wide Area Network (WAN) with a narrow bandwidth connection (virtualised environments, server-based computing), insufficient bandwidth may become an issue when the scanner sends raw data to the central server. As the myUTN-130 Scannerserver is able to compress scan data, there will be more bandwidth left for other applications in such cases.
Secure Scanning Across the Network
To protect connected scanners and scan-data from unauthorised access, the myUTN-130 Scannerserver offers many security functions such as access control, authentication, password protection, and encryption.
System Requirements and Service
The IPv6-enabled myUTN-130 Scannerserver operates in all Ethernet networks including Gigabit (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT). It is compatible with Windows 32/64 bit versions (Windows 7, Server 2008, Vista, Server 2003, XP). Regular free software updates, technical support world wide and a three year warranty come with the myUTN-130.
